Pre-election Interview with Ricardo Lagos

Interesting interview in EMOL with Ricardo Lagos. He supports the Boric candidacy, but with serious reservations. His own left wing credentials, proven at a time when public dissention with the Military government was a dangerous business, cannot be denied.

Here, he states that every episode of violence is a vote for Kast:

¿A balazos?

Nice sentiments, except that it’s precisely the politicians who have taken the country to its present state of anarchy. It has happened before.

He also showed misgivings over the role of the Communist party in a Boric government:

So his endorsement of Boric is pretty lukewarm, and may only be personally expedient. And like most Chilean politicians, he wants to be con dios y con el diablo también.

Note that Lagos didn’t mention either candidate’s programs; instead, he analyses the tendencies underneath all the hot air.
