Have crime rates risen in Chile in the last 5 years?

I don’t see it like that at all. According to my husband who is a lawyer, things have been that way for a long time. It doesn’t have to do with the current political situation. It has to do with how judges are trained here.

thank you gringolais, I tend to overthink. Either way, it is not an effective deterrent. Attacking the police in any other country is a crime with time.

Police attempt to stop a car without licence plates, the driver takes off at high speed and collides with a palm tree. Both occupants killed.

The car had been stolen. A shotgun was found in the vehicle and burglary tools. Both occupants had been released from jail on Conditional Liberty.

Same sort of incident happens in every town in Chile these days.

Seems the national media somehow ignored this mass shooting.

Early Sunday morning outside a hip urban music disco in Llolleo, a group was denied entry because of prior bad behavior. One takes out a .40 cal semi-auto and begins shooting towards the ground. Seven shots, five innocents injured in their legs, 2 females (one of the discoteque guards) and 3 males (one an Uber driver).

No suspects in custody yet.

Classy…early sunday morning and they cant get into duh club.

Cat probably never even shot a gun at the ground before, and figured it would work out well to get in to all those classy honeys inside

The Empire has globally exported its utilization of violence to solve disagreements, and its softness on crime

Yet another Death by Tree while trying to run away from the cops. Fortunately, the tree was undamaged this time.

They play that ridiculous music over EVERY segment no matter the subject. Even over panel discussions.

Here’s the weather with accompanying background music.

Less ominous but still promotes a sense of urgency. Unwatchable.

As I already mentioned, the statistics don’t reflect reality, many crimes go unreported.

.
And the situation has worsened recently with a pronounced upturn since Boric came to power, as shown in this not-very-well presented graphic. Again, “official” statistics…

I saw an interesting report in a newspaper this week about the encerronas in Region Metropolitana, so Santiago region. Encerronas is when the car in front of you stops to block you in and 3-4 men get out, sometimes armed, to rob your car. The report has compiled about 1,500 instances in 2 years. Now I’m guessing there are about 1.5 million cars circling around the region or higher, which would give you a 0.1% or 1 in a 1,000 chance of being victim of this if you drive an average amount. Those odds are for a 2-year period. Over your whole life that could be >1%.

However, in reality, if you are driving a very old, small car the odds are far better and if you are driving something very valuable, the odds are going to be far worse.

The report explained that they previously only targeted the most valuable cars but now 30% of the cases are cars worth around about 10 million pesos, which wasn’t the case before.

They also had a map showing all the motorway junctions and the worst are Vespucio Norte Express/Autopista Central (Quillucura) with 19 instances in two years and Ruta 68/ Vespucio Norte Express (Pudaeul) with 25 instances in 2 years.

According to this ex CC, encerronas only affect “the rich”. That’s the apruebo mentality.
.

What bullshit, this facho ethnic gringo was in that famous blocked tunnel from a couple of days ago previously just last Monday in a Cabify to get to the US Embassy. Compared to the real rich elite including the new caviar commies with their multi palo sueldos in the government, rich I ain’t.

Clearly the people doing the enceronnas are merely heart of gold robin hoods and little johns helping with some “street socialism”. Doing their part thanklessly. The cockles of my heart are warmed by the “socialism in action” as the pesos of rich scumbags are liberated for the wholesome benefit of these angels.
/sarcastic rant

In reality, ones odds will also be alot better getting the heck out of the cities or even getting away from near the cities and getting to the countryside where the population density is far far lower per square km. Less vultures to notice you. It is not for everyone but this advice applies (now) almost everywhere.

Then one can enjoy the guilty facist luxury of driving a used vehicle that costs 10 million pesos without having to pay the street socialism tax and hypervigilant mental tax.

I agree. The vultures have less anonymity in the country. Anonymity is a major tool of their trade.

probably a fair comment mem. I may have said this before but I was in Chaiten in the Carretera Austral in 2017 and I was standing outside a shop and someone pulled up and left their car outside unlocked with the engine running and the key in the ignition and went into the shop. I thought about it and I figured that´s it not that people in Chaiten are more ethical but that there is nowhere to hide a stolen car in Chaiten where everyone knows each other and there are two roads out of town. Whereas if you steal a car at a motorway junction in Santiago there are hundreds of different roads within a 5-minute drive, it´s looking for a needle in a haystack.

It is happening in other countries. Time will tell what portion will resort to crime.

All part of the UN 2030 agenda among others which the US, Chile, most of Europe elites are following whether or not their people agree.

Some more useful stats in today’s Mercurio (section C, page 11)

Homicides up 45% to 411
“Violaciones” (I think that means rape) up 13% to 1,378
Robo de vehiculos up 42% to 16,387
Violent vehicle robberies up 81% to 6382

Stats of first half of 2022 vs first half of 2019 (2020 for the violent vehicle robberies)

This is police cases source “Stop de Carabineros”. For the vehicle cases and murders, I think few will not be reported.

In all cases the rise is 2022 only, 2021 and 2020 and 2019 were about the same

There has been a big shift in 2022. Inflation in chile is out of control and the new socialist administration and the constitutional debauchery have all come together to result in the country covered in excrement.

The chickens of the last couple years have come home to roost.

When you back people into a corner, when they feel the walls closing in, people thay normally would not have resorted to crime suddenly see it as not only a now valid option, but a necessity.

This is a lesson in cascading failure.

The estallido was the beginning, when people who did not appreciate their relative wealth, stability and security decided to throw what they had away…to make a point. Yay for that…fat lot of good that did. Fat lot of good that ever did for anyone anywhere at anytime.

They rage quit reality and burned and stole anything in proximity and to hell with consequences and thinking about the ramifications.

Now they have even less wealth, stability, and security than before the estallido.

The world no longer envies or values chile.
The world no longer trusts chile.
Chile no longer trusts chile.

Bravo just bravo
