As the title says. Election day is Tuesday, November 5th. Let’s hope everyone remains calm, regardless of who wins.
I obviously have a preference (best of two evils does not even come close to the nuanced to Realpolitik and macro economic reasons) but I am not voting as I could only do it via the US state of last residence. That state is one party state California and there are reasons I want nothing to ever interfere in that it is in no way a tax residence or to be listed once again and harassed for impossible jury duty. For the above reason, I will have to leave this one blank.
The empire strikes again! LOL. I will edit and put that there is absolutely no requirement to vote in this poll
Actually, a good splinter topic would be how particular caos scenarios in the States could affect world markets, international trade, hot spot conflict zones, etc. with particular emphasis on our corner of the Southern Cone.
When the United States sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.
I was just thinking about that when I wrote my blog post today. Anyway, I think whoever is elected won’t be catastrophic, as some believe. Look at how Rome didn’t collapse in just a few years, it took many centuries.
The US collapse probably began before JFK was taken out (though it was a very important marker) via the formation of the Federal Reserve in 1913. So already 111 years in an empire where everything seems to be more time compressed than the recorded past ones. In terms of fiat currencies, we already are at the end of the line.
There is a severe divide in the country that I’ve never seen before in my lifetime. I do prefer to live this one out as an outside opinionated observer vs. an actual fighting fist and firearms participant. Am I a coward? Not in my opinion. I warned about the decline and moved to Chile giving up a way of life and the possibility of earning a decent sum of money because of 9 1 1 . Few listened and more condemned as crazy and paranoid.
It is what it is. I hope and pray for the best as I have a lot of family there.
Or catches a COVID-19 variant.
But the real story is this: how many more squirrels must die before the US comes to its senses?
How about a " None of the Above"
The interesting thing is not the course, narcissistic head but the roles of the other personalities involved.
But really, would you want a US version of Boric in charge, higher taxes, price controls, a contnuing open border with its implications for drugs (fentanyl anyone?) and human trafficking, buku bucks for foreign entanglements while the US infrastructure rots like so many collapsed bridges?
Bobby Kennedy, Jr. and making America healthy again or perhaps Attorney General which should make criminals in politics to captured regulatory agencies to Big Pharma shake in fear.
Elon Musk and Ron Paul (yes THE Ron Paul) who has offered to help Musk streamline the government.
If the Repubs have the Senate and House, no excuses this time for not getting the job done.
Still the possibility of an assassination or a health problem.
If the anti-Trump string pullers get really pissed, my prediction is the markets will crash before inauguration day with maybe a gifted new conflict or war by the lame duck admin.
Buckle up!
Many of Trump’s former top cabinet officers and aides have said publicly that Trump should not be president again and should not even be on the ballot.
Those include: former vice president Mike Pence; former secretary of defense Mark Esper; former chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley; former national security adviser John Bolton; former secretary of defense James Mattis; former director of national intelligence Dan Coats; former chief of staff John Kelly; former chief of staff Mick Mulvaney; and former secretary of state Rex Tillerson.
Bob Woodward - War
IMO, I would classify almost all as Deep State who were intent on hamstringing or sabotaging the then naive 45th president.
It’s amazing we didn’t start shooting nukes at Iran during that time or give Ukraine WMDs (the Bolton and company neocon gang).
He is supposedly wiser now and as number 47 will not surround himself with Deep Staters and neocons like the last time.
Of course, only time will tell. We still have many weeks to go till early next year and anything can happen with some still predicting there will be no change to a new administration due to various emergency scenarios.
All the good people felt obliged to walk and warn the world (or were sacked). There a few people of integrity, common sense, and intelligence left to be chosen.
For once, Elon Musk might actually be the smartest guy in the room instead of just thinking he is.
That’s why this next few years is more dangerous and risky than the previous administration. Few people left to restrain Trump.
Probably no-one sensible left in the nuclear chain of command.
Asked about the nuclear triad, the massive arsenal that would be at his disposal as president of the United States, Trump said, “We have to be extremely vigilant and extremely careful when it comes to nuclear. Nuclear changes the whole ballgame.” Pressed about what he meant, he added, “I think—I think, for me, nuclear is just the power, the devastation is very important to me.”
These were not missteps. Asked to clarify Trump’s comments later, one of Trump’s spokespeople waved away the entire matter as irrelevant. Trump, Katrina Pierson told Fox News, was tough, and that’s all that mattered. “What good does it do to have a good nuclear triad if you’re afraid to use it?” she asked. Pierson’s fellow guest was the attorney and political commentator Kurt Schlichter, a retired Army colonel whose military specializations included chemical and nuclear issues, and who by any standard is an ultra-conservative. Schlichter was visibly astonished. “The point of the nuclear triad is to be afraid to use the damn thing,” he said emphatically.
Trump survived all of this, seized the Republican nomination, and won, because in the end, he connected with a particular kind of voter who believes that knowing about things like America’s nuclear deterrent is just so much pointy-headed claptrap.
Worse, voters not only didn’t care that Trump is ignorant or wrong, they likely were unable to recognize his ignorance or errors
Thomas M Nichols -The Death of Expertise (2017)
In political matters it is only necessary to convincingly appear to be less wrong, less ignorant, less incompetent, less dishonest, and less evil than the opposition
I am relieved the trans-agenda lobby has met it’s match. No more recruiting pre-schoolers with drag queen story hour and male genitalia in full sight. No more pressure on pre-teens to opt for surgical mutilation and a lifetime of big Harma. No more teachers supporting student sex changes without parent’s knowledge. Girls and boys can begin to love their bodies and the multiple facets of their personalities again without succumbing to pressure to fit into a tiny box of gender ideology.
I am relieved that the group illusion that men are women is being shattered and women will compete in women’s sports with other women and feel safe in women’s restrooms.
I am relieved the borders will be safely guarded and the criminals sent back to their countries. Illegal immigrants will lose their hotel rooms, monthly stipends and deposits on new homes that Americans can’t afford, and these illegal immigrants will return to their own countries and try to change their countries for the better.
I am relieved that big Harma’s stranglehold on media and politicians will be severed by the courage of people like Kennedy. No more vaccine mandates and no more lifetime protection from lawsuits for big Harma.
I am relieved the glut in government will be trimmed and our civil rights to free speech restored.
I am relieved we may have dodged WWW 3 but there is still time for the outgoing warhawk government to start this war. On election day when Americans were transfixed to their media, the government in power until January 6th tested a nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile halfway to the coast of China… and the trusted corporate-owned news media did not say a peep.
I am relieved that as flawed and unfiltered as the orange man is, America saw past these flaws and voted for policies. May God protect him from the enemy within.
For a candidate to lose in such a big way against Mister Trump reveals a very special form of failure.
So true.My husband and I were just discussing this.
hlf288, being sort of conservative (with a small c), I can understand where you are coming from, and share many of the same views. But I really question Trump’s underlying motives and his mental stability.
Here in Chile we have similar examples from the other end of the political spectrum where the current incumbents loudly professed their moral superiority over the old politicos, only to indulge in unprecedented levels of corruption and nepotism as soon as they had the chance.
And their behaviour in the Monsalve scandal clearly shows that their proclaimed pro-feminist agenda was nothing more than a sham, a power-grabbing exercise, as are most of the causes that they espouse.
There seems to be a worldwide and long-overdue reaction against Progre values, trouble is that it will be used by cynical demagogues like Trump to further their own selfish agendas.
