Since besotted sexual misbehavior seems to be a popular topic at the moment, here’s a very
short history of Ana Alvarado, the “Geisha Chilena”
While working as a prostitute (and not as a Geisha) in Japan, she met, and subsequently married Yuji Chida, a public-sector accountant, who then proceeded to embezzle USD $11M of his employers cash.
After the fraud was discovered, Alvarado (and the money) ended up in Chile, while her husband
went to jail. He was released after serving a 14-year sentence. Unlike Chile, Japan obviously
believes in stiff penalties for white-collar crime.
From Tokyo Reporter:
…Although he has not met Alvarado since the incident came to light, they are still married.
They have not had a chance to discuss divorce, as they have not had any contact with each other.…“If there is even any amount of money left, I want her to pay it back and return it
to the people of Aomori Prefecture. That is what I ask of her now.”

Her high-spending lifestyle soon came to the attention of the local press, and she appeared quite often on farandula-type TV talk shows, even releasing several music singles. Her most recent media appearances was when (with perhaps unconscious irony) she denounced the theft of her vehicle.
I have never seen a word of condemnation in the media for her behaviour. There seems to exist a peculiarly Chilean appreciation for this type of sordid conduct, and not just at the flaite
(lowlife) level of the local “culture” either.
