It is quite evident they will continue to tighten the screws on the already mainly law abiding. The crackdown on Mercadolibre, the crackdown on social media influencers, the elimination of the $41 import exemption and now the crackdown on the rest of those making extra money via social media sales via a certain threshold of electronic deposits (now 50 but of course, this can become tighter over time).
These are what have been reported by the MSM but I do believe there is much more new surveillance going on now than before the Boric government’s spend all of what’s left in the coffers and more spree.
In another thread, we talked about cash deposits to your or other’s accounts. Today for the second time in two months (and two deposits), I have been asked for my RUN while depositing to my wife’s account. They did not ask for my cedula but probably this will be asked for in the future as the regs only seem to get tighter.
Going after social media influencers and Facebook and Instagram sales also imply that more in the employ of the government are surveilling sites on the Internet and compiling lists for further investigation. And we already know the banks cooperate and share info with SII and other agencies.
Increasing control especially with the elimination of the $41 exemption is now affecting the ability to receive affordable supplements from overseas. Looks like Vitacost already eliminated the possibility of using the traditionally more relaxed (for ISP/Seremi Salud approval) CorreosChile which means there is no possibility now that they will not be held by customs via FEDEX. But perhaps this no longer matters because if all parcels are screened for tax purposes, the other types of screening may have also tightened?
For the first time in all my decades of returning to Chile, I was scolded by Aduanas for the amount of supplements in my bags and threatened that they could be confiscated next time if I did not reduce the amount of containers I was bringing in for my family and myself. I asked what is too much, he said more than ten and of course no regard to usage, the fact there were quite a mix and not all the same, etc. your health be damned unless you can show an idiotic prescription for a year’s supply from a Chilean doctor.
A tale as old as time. Leftist government gets elected promising to “tax the rich” in the name of equality, without realising that the rich have access to such things as accountants , tax lawyers and offshore bank accounts and are actually very hard to penalise through tax and can simply just leave the country, leaving the tax burden on an ever more squeezed and rapidly diminishing middle class who will eventually be taxed into poverty until everyone is too poor to collect any money at all from.
off topic but I am very wary of supplements and vitamins, mainly the processing the added ingredients, the packaging, the binding medium . Many say magnesium stearate is harmless, as is the gelatin packaging for capsules but when I started getting sudden muscle twitches and spasms in my body, the first thing I did was a water fast… the twitches continued. Then I stopped all vitamins and supplements and within 48 hours all spasms and twitches stopped. Now I make an effort to eat a diversity of non-processed foods to meet my vitamin requirements.
Even further off topic, I have experienced muscle twitches, spasms from eating non-organic ingredients, especially flours in pizza or breads. After I learned that muscle twitches are one of the most common physical reactions to being exposed to pesticides and realizing most processed foods use flour made from grains that are heavily sprayed, I joined several reddit groups about muscle twitches and wrote about the connection between muscle twitches and pesticide poisoning (my way of thanking the Universe for helping me learn a lesson is sharing the lesson) and my post was removed from every reddit group I posted in and I was told I would be banned for posting misinformation if I ever posted about that correlation again. That is when I realized how widespread the power of big Chem and big Harma was and how common muscle twitches and spasms have become… check it out… many reddit groups… Muscle Twitch, Benign Fasciculation Syndrome, BFS, myoclonus… all carefully steering people away from pesticide poisoning.
Amazon is still showing “No Import Fees Deposit” on their items under $40. If Amazon still doesn’t charge the import fee, then who does if this item is shipped?
I think the palabra de moda in the Comrade Boric government now is “equity” (equidad) rather than equality. If gives them more operating room for more excessive soaking of the rich.
But here is where the political correctness for once worked in my favor:
This year was the first time I had to pay contribuciones (property tax) on my rather old but still valuable rural house. I paid it late and I did not see penalties.
Then a surprising message from the SII: because I am older than Chinese dirt, I am now exempt from contribuciones on that property. Now, SII doesn’t know that I don’t live there at the moment and I am not going to mess with their illusions.
All this legislative change and money grabbing and surveillance is just too much…so many gringos have already bailed on chile. Maybe they just want to drive everyone away that can leave

Expats who are currently annoyed with the increasing intrusion of the authorities into what they regard as their private business are only now finding out what Chileans have had to put up with for years.
I work for a company in the US and I issue a boleta de honorarios every month and pay the retention. When I logged in to pay this month, I got a message that I had boletas that hadn’t been declared, which is completely untrue. I checked and I had declarations for all months of 2024. Even after issuing the latest boleta and paying, I’m still getting the message. It says, ignore the message if you paid, but I’m not sure why I’m seeing it at all. It feels very intrusive.
I called and they said to use the contact for to request them to remove the observation. I will report back on what happens.
Very strange. It is almost like they just enabled that observation for all accounts and then want people to proactivley/manually have it removed?
I guess then they would presume anyone who hadnt responded manually must be guilty.

The contact form support was useless. They just told me to close the pop-up. I’m not sure if I’m motivated enough to go to the local SII office just to be sure. I have double-checked and everything is in order.

Well, I logged in today to SII to declare January and February. I had forgotten to declare last month. There was no message, throughout the process and I had to issue two boletas and two declarations. I guess either they finally listened to my complaints or it was some sort of error being shown to everyone.
