Hey all. I have been away and have not posted for a while; I hope everyone is doing well.
Our son is 1 y.o. now and is still without a U.S. SSN number. I have contacted the Embassy, and the SSN office in D.C. and now I am more confused than ever of how to go about obtaining the number. One directed me to the Embassy in Argentina of which I have contacted twice now, of which my calls have gone unanswered. No idea what to do now…
Here is info that might be of help to you. The US Embassy in Santiago can certify your documents (US Passport, Chilean cedula or passport).
Note: The SS-5 can be used for a new SS card in addition to a replacement.
"Thank you for contacting the Federal Benefits Unit at the US Embassy.
To request a replacement of an SSN Card, please send original or
certified copies of the documents listed below to the nearest Federal
Benefits Unit (FBU). If you choose to send copies, they have to be
certified at the American Citizen Services Unit in the nearest US
Consulate. Let the employee know that the certified copies are for
enumeration purposes."
