Latest Chilean travel advice for Brits

From Ex-Ante:

“Muggings occur frequently, especially in Santiago and Valparaíso, and increasingly involve weapons such as guns and knives. Robberies can take place during the day and in plain view of others. Be aware of your surroundings,” states one of the suggestions the United Kingdom is making—updated this Monday—to travelers to Chile.

Another blow to Chile’s international reputation. Street violence is something that residents have known about for years now.

To be fair, the UK is not one to be throwing stones…

Its the same advice I give to people traveling to Santiago or Valpo.
There’s no comparison between the levels of uncontrolled delinquency here and anywhere else in the so-called “civilized” world.

These incidents, selected at random from the last couple of days, would be reported internationally elsewhere, but here they’re almost routine.

And from Argentina:

… the consulate urges its citizens not to leave any belongings in the vehicle when parking. At tourist attractions and scenic spots, be extra careful; do not leave your vehicle in the care of strangers. Avoid the use of cell phones in public, as there is a risk of theft.

Maybe an example of “the pot calling the kettle black”?
