Finally they are going

To quote Tómas Bradanovic:

Some say it’s the government that has done the most damage to Chile. That’s not true; Allende’s government did far more damage, and even Bachelet’s, if we’re being objective. What it has been, however, is the most incompetent and despicable government we’ve ever had.

Chile’s moral decomposition is so profound - at all levels of society - that I suspect the long-overdue shakeup that Kast promises will be an uphill struggle, especially in a country where a substantial percentage of the voters, especially the bureaucrats, still want a Communist government and will do their utmost to sabotage Kast’s efforts.

I recall in 2018 how many people expected Piñera’s second presidency to turn the country round. We know how badly that turned out…

Thank you Feargie. I do appreciate it.

I believe we’re all hoping Kast doesn’t turn out to be another Piñera—it would be a letdown for all of us. Still, I’m confident we have better odds this time around. Problems will arise, but they won’t be impossible to overcome.
As for the sense of moral decline, people always feel that way, but I don’t think it’s quite as bad as it seems. If you ask me, things were far worse in the 60s and 70s.

I agree, Fergle. But at the very least, we won’t have to listen to the outgoing government trying to gaslight us about how much they improved the country. That was getting gross. Their 1,000 accomplishments document was particularly pathetic.

Holy sheitmeister. What a día! As I’ve stated in another post that I would be in Puerto Varas during the inauguration, woke up to the national impacting news of the brain dead and probably soon to be permanently dead Carabinero and then the inaugural process of the new President.

All through the day, the majority of the people HERE young and old seemed to be in good to great spirits.

All this coinciding with the beginning of a personal decision to move to a nearby location which just happens to be near the same rail tracks where the Carabinero was gravely injured.

Had a homestyle seafood lunch at Donde El Gordito watching the middle of the Prez transition on the TV there and then much later in the evening after the train trip to where I will probably be living soon saw the red and blue light display of the Carabinero reten of the gravely injured Carabinero from our 6th floor AirBnB while simultaneously watching the public pronouncements occurring below on the national news.

Above only a portion of my 5 nights here after my 6-7 previous visits to this area over the decades.

I do believe Providence is directing me here.

A few years I thought it really, really mattered who was in power and I greatly preferred some candidates to others and Kast was among the worst. However, I’m coming around to the viewpoint that far left or far right won’t make as much difference as all that. Neither one will be so terrible or so great as some might think.

This may be because of some peculiarities of the Chilean system, or because the President here has a limit of power.

Somehow I’m hopeful that the Chilean people will keep Kast on a centrist course when needed and Kast won’t be a Milei or Trump or Bolsanaro that oversteps his power and does what he want.

My viewpoint doesn’t hold for other countries - I think Trump has been a disaster for instance.
